Before things started getting too cold, I went down to the lake one morning and was pleasantly surprised to find the mist towering off of it in columns. I took a lot of pictures, but these ones impressed me the most. They reminded me of mini tornados. Some of them even towered above the treetops.
None of these pics were photoshopped. They all come straight from the camera.
As soon as I read the title of this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge, I knew exactly which one I wanted to use. I took this picture just over a year ago and it’s been one of my favorites ever since.
Not far from my house is a lake that has many waterfowl residents including this Heron. The Herons are usually very skittish and I was surprised that this one stood there long enough for me to take its picture.
Captain Obvious was injured in a horrible marshmallow accident and will be out of commission for a while. In his absence, I’ll be stepping in. Who am I? I’m Major Irony. And today’s pic is full of that.
Back in 2011, I was taking pictures of flooding for a local newspaper when I ran across this little gem. I just couldn’t help myself, I had to snap the picture. Last week when I was digging through my pictures looking for that eclipse shot, I stumbled across this one and knew I had to pull it out of mothballs for the world to see.
I’ve decided to name my posts that just have one of my pics and a brief story about it, ‘Photo op’. That way it’s easily recognizable. Ok, enough of that. On with today’s picture.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I took it last summer at the same lake near my house as yesterday’s pic. It’s also one of my favorites because I actually managed to catch the Heron standing there before he flew away. I’ve been taking pictures at this lake for years and these birds are the most skittish I’ve ever come across. Even point a camera in their direction and they take off like their tail’s on fire.
I also love the lighting of this shot. When I titled it, I called it, ‘On Golden Lake’ in a rather obvious (and probably failed) attempt to conjure images of the movie ‘On Golden Pond’.
It’s pics like these that keep me taking pictures. This shot is actually the one I use on my business card for my photography site. I love it that much.
I’ve only recently begun blogging semi-regularly. So far it’s been interesting finding some of the awesome posts out there, even though I know I’ve only scratched the surface.
The problem lies with my own posts. So far I’ve been posting reviews, excerpts from my book, and a few (hopefully funny) rant posts. The problem is that my blog is called ‘mikesimages’ and to date, I have only posted one of my images (and that turned out to be a dismal failure).
It’s time to turn that around. For years I’ve posted my pictures on Facebook and my friends all said how much they enjoyed them, so I’ll start by sharing them here. I hope you enjoy them as well.
I took this picture years ago, at a lake near my house. I was very lucky with the timing of it. I had just driven through at twilight and was treated to this magnificent sight. The camera I used then was only a small 4 megapixel point and shoot. This picture remains one of my favorites to this day.
If you’d like to see more of my photos, here’s my website.
I hope you enjoyed today’s picture. Have a great day.
